Travel Info Im going to montreal for 1day/night what MUST i do there? Travel Tips Even if you don't want to spend you can go to Vieux Montreal or Downtown! It's the best and the Holiday decorations are the best in the world!! Or spend a little and go to LaRonde Theme Park or Cirque Du Soleil or a fancy restaurant or steak house! Go to the Universities and check for festivals or parties! Or simply have a nice brunch at Boccacino's or some cafe's! You'll love it! Others I personally LOVE Montreal... it's a very beautiful town... for things to do... there is so much.... one of my favourite things is Cirque De Soleil... but that can be quite expensive.... but if you're willing to spend that much money DEFINITELY do it! If not, walking the streets is cheap, and very good, there are so many nice places to go into and browse in. Shopping there ROCKS! Some very good clubs around the town.... um definitely get some smoked meat there.... i know it sound strange, but seriously, best you'll ever have... there's so much to do there! I hope you have a great time! EAT EAT EAT - Mtl has some of best pizzas, subs, smoked meat around. Also the Montreal Canadiens hockey team is a big tourist attraction - catching a game would be good. Walk downtown - there are tons of stores and there are many international quarters such as china town, little italy, latin quarter. Musuem of Fine Arts, HaHaHa museum also the BioDome is a fun activity. Montreal is a large metropolitan city with much to offer for everyone. It's a shame that you will only be there such a short time. But, the "must see" for me when I'm in Montreal is the Notre Dame Basilica. It truly has one of the most remarkable cathedral interiors I've ever seen. In the evening they also do a light & sound show in the cathedral about the history of Montreal and the church which is quite well done. It's called "And Then There Was Light" I believe. The church is located in the heart of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal) which is great fun to just stroll around the quaint, narrow streets that resemble the "old world" charm of Paris or other European cities. It is situated along the St. Lawrence River which has been revitalized recently with lots of activities for tourists. One museum along the river on Rue de la Commune is the Pointe-a-Calliere Archeology & History Museum. The very contemporary & striking building sits literally on top of an archeological dig that you are allowed to explore and learn more about the origins of Montreal. The weather this time of year is very cold and miserable so most of Montreal is using the vast underground tunnel system that connects the major malls, office buildings and subway stations. So, bundle up, brush up on your French and have a great time. Past trips to Montreal Too bad that you're only going for one day/night. Here's what to do: Start your day in Dorchester Square (just off of Peel Street, south of Ste-Catherine Street) where the main Montreal Tourism office is. Ask them to recommend a good walking tour of Old Montreal. They are extremely knowledgeable in that office; they'll tell you exactly what to do and will tailor it to your own personal interests and tastes. Old Montreal is beautiful - and there are lots of things to see and do, both indoor and outdoor. After touring old Montreal, make your way up St Laurent street, which will take you through Chinatown and into the "hip" part of town. If you've still got time to kill in the day, make your way all the way up to Mont Royal street, where there is a nice Christmas festival (not to cheesy, just festive) and some great eclectic shops. However, if it's already dinner time then just pick a spot anywhere on St Laurent between Sherbrooke and Laurier (which is about a 1.5 km stretch). This is where all the great restaurants and clubs are....you'll be able to keep busy all night. Another great thing about Montreal: the bring-your-own wine restaurants. Unlike most cities, there are no corkage fees. From St Laurent, turn right on either Prince Arthur or Duluth. Both of these streets have tons of BYOWs. Have fun! |
