Travel Info Are there any haunted houses/buildings in the Montreal area?(That give tours)? Travel Tips I think you might find this interesting... There are more than 250 bodies in the basement of a building at one of downtown Montr茅al鈥檚 busiest corners. And intrepid tourists can 鈥榲isit鈥?them鈥攊n the company of a nun! The site is one of Montr茅al鈥檚 many smaller museums, the Marguerite d鈥橸ouville Centre. It contains the simple graves of 260 nuns, each marked by a hand-painted wooden cross and dating back to the 19th century. The last burial here was in 1961. Most visitors come to see the tomb of Marie Marguerite Dufrost de Lajemmerais (more usually known as Marguerite d鈥橸ouville) one of the most important women in Montr茅al鈥檚 colonial history. She founded the order of nuns among whom she is buried and in 1990 was canonized鈥攖he first Canadian-born saint. As well as this unusual 鈥榠ndoor cemetery,鈥?the building displays old paintings, furniture, Indian, Inuit and missionary art, and some beautiful liturgical vestments. Free tours are available Wednesdays to Sundays. For more information, call (514) 937-9501. Others go to hauntedhouses.com and follow links.BOO! There is a lame-o "haunted" restaurant that I have gone to several times for group parties: http://www.maisonhantee.qc.ca/ There is one "ghost tour" departing from the Old Port, but it is closed on winter, I think. http://www.quaisduvieuxport.com/... |
