What is the distance between Toronto and Montreal? Is there any public transportation for it and how long? |
Travel Info We are thinking to spend a week to 10 days in Canada next September. Generally speaking, how long does it take to visit one city (Toronto or Montreal)? Which city is better? Or should we divide the time for both cities? Is there any public transportation between those cities? And how long does it take? If we drive, how many miles? Appreciate your help. Thanks a lot. Travel Tips My husband and I make that drive every Christmas. and sometimes once in the summer (We live in Montreal.) It takes about 5 hours depending on your speed by taking the 401 highway. Not a bad trip; nice scenery and pit stops/gas stations. But both cities are great places and though they look the same, tthey are very different. Both have excellent things to do and see and in Montreal you'll get the "French" atmosphere. (Just go to the old port to see it) Definately worth it to see both. Others It takes between four and five hours from montreal to toronto.The highway 401 is an excellent route. There is a train service,plane service and a greyhound bus service. The distance is around 450 miles. Both cities are different with montreal being more like europe and have two languages,english and frech. We drive every year, best time was just over 5 hours. That means really speeding. There is the VIA train, but it is pricey. I flew from Toronto to Montreal once. The flight was just a few hours, but it still took up 6 hours because of airport waiting. Montreal is by far better. And just a few hours from Quebec City which is lovely. Even Ottawa is better than Toronto. Toronto is not really for tourists. Its a commerce city. Although girluvst is correct that there is more to do and the ambiance is much more charming in Montreal, there is still plenty of interest in Toronto. It is probably the second city for the performing arts in North America after New York. It is also at present the most multicultural city in the world (yes! More than New York or Los Angeles) although Montreal is full of immigrants from different lands, also. Montreal city is much a cafe society, with lovely architecture in its residential areas although unfortunately the suburbs that surround it are ugly American-style sprawls. Montreal and Quebec City are much closer to mountains (albeit not high ones) and Canadian wilderness, and if you come the last part of the month (September) it should be height of the spectacular foliage. Finally, if you are so inclined, Montreal is only 1 hour away from the best (and still sane) and lovely state of the USA - Vermont. (Our cheeses and maple syrup are better, though!) Me.
