Is the area around the Econo lodge in downtown Montreal a bad neighbourhood? |
Travel Info It's located 2060 Rue Saint-dominique. This looks like it's close to Universite de Quebec A Montreal... Travel Tips It won't be the nicest room view you've ever seen for sure! But you are very close to lot's of interesting place...very close to downtown (10 min walk) and very very close to St-Laurent St. (3 min walk)witch is very nice to go eat-walk-dance-party...etc. So if you plan to stay in your room...I would choose something fancier, but other wise it is close to everything. For the safety part, I live in Montreal and am very used to the city so I wouldn't be scared to go out around this area at any time of the day/night. But if you don't feel secure, when coming back late at night, take a taxi...it won't cost you more than 10$ from about anywhere you are in the downtown area...really it a central location. Have a nice trip! Others Somewhat seedy. The standard corner for hookers was always Ste. Catherines and St. Laurent and it's only a couple blocks from there. Yes, near UQAM. I'm from Montreal, although I moved away. It is a quite interesting area. Within walking distance of the Palais de Congres, Chinatown, the university (as you noted), Montreal Old Port, and, yes, the seedy few blocks of St-Catherines Street but also to the arts and performance centre (and several other stage theatres). I stayed there. It's a little iffy. More so for your vehicle then for your personal safety. The clerk at the front desk all but promised that my vehicle would have been stolen if I'd parked it on the street. However, walking around by myself at night, albeit sober, was fine. Just keep your head up, move quickly, and know where you're going. Do not stay at the Econo Lodge Aeroport outside of the city, that's where my vehicle WAS stolen. Right out of the lit hotel parking lot. http://www.cisc.gc.ca/annual_reports/ann... It's not great but not terrible either. Kindof a narsty vacant lot behind it... But you'll be around a 2 minute walk from the St Laurent Metro and just a few minutes from the Berri/UQAM metro. Montreal is generally a safe city, so don't worry... |
