Travel Info MONTREAL...Going for the 1st time with my 10 year old. Suggestions on where to stay..what to do and eat.? Travel Tips My number # 1 recommendation with a 10 year old would be to do the Biodome, next to Olympic Stadium, phone 514/868-3000;www.biodome.qc.ca... Open daily 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., most months of the year (check the website as the Biodome does close some Mondays in the winter months). It only takes a couple of hours but is not to expensive and is quite nice. Their is also the Insectarium about a half mile walk away inside the Botanical garden. Like the Biodome it鈥檚 open daily (with some exceptions) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (check the website before you arrive just to be safe). You can buy a pass for about $30 that will get you into Insectarium, Olympic Tower, and Biod么me. If you kid is into art and museums then check out the Museum of Fine Art (Musee des Beaux Arts), 1379-1380 rue Sherbrooke Ouest at rue Crescent, phone 514/285-2000; www.mmfa.qc.ca. When you go in the front doors you will see ticket counters--Don't go to them, walk over to the right, you can put in a small donation take a sticker and see 98% of the museum. (The expensive tickets at the front counter just get you into the special touring exhibit). The Museum is on both sides of the road with a tunnel under the street. If your kid is into science, their is the science center down by the water. Your hotel can get you a flyer. Use the Metro. Montreal has one of the worlds nicest and easiest to use subways. For a 10 year old it's an amusement ride. (Taxi's are not badly priced either) As to where to stay. I like the Marriott Residence Inn because it is centrally located. The price includes breakfast. It has a small indoor pool. But I think any 3-4 star hotel on Priceline with a pool would do fine. Have fun, we take our kids up to Montreal (from Vermont) a couple times a year. (and no, I don't speak French, and that has never been a problem) Others Unless you are fluent in French, don't go. In Quebec all signs are in French with some English ones. Also the English signs are smaller therefore more difficult to read. There are better places to visit in Canada then Quebec. (Montreal). |
