Travel Tips
I was born and raised in Morocco for 28 years. I live now in the US and I can tell there is a whole lot more violence in Detroit than anywhere else.....Yes when you don't speak french or spanish or berber it will definitely be wise to ask a guide to show you around. Otherwise it is one of the most stable countries in the world. People even tough in some locations might be poor, they are hospitable and family is still very important. We do look like any one else in the states, all colors and pretty much all races, so no matter who you are, you are welcome in Morocco.

i just went to a city near the coast - Tangier. it was ok, interesting style, i like. but...bearing in mind the rising violence in that area, i wouldn't recommend it right now. watch out for the hagglers, they are more than persistent.
both my mum and a friend went last year both said the same-that it was beautiful to look at but the men harass u constantly so theyd never go again x
I went to Marrakech last year and found it a great experience, however I would recommend it only for about 4 days. We stayed in a traditional Riad in the centre of the old town (Medina) and it certainly opens your eyes to how some people live. There were children in the streets at all hours of the day..... I was a little worried about what to wear, but shorts and a top were ok as long as you aren't showing off lots of cleavage.

The shopping is amazing, but be prepared to haggle a lot. I would say that if you were redecorating and looking for interesting things inside your house, this would be the place to go, but ensure you go right into the Souks for this and also try and get a guide to take you. You do get hassled, but all you need to say is 'NO' very firmly and they leave you alone. The J'Ma al F'na square is a treat at night, where loads of open air cafe's open up and it's packed! Be warned though, I spent two days in bed with food poisening but my hubbie was ok and we both ate the same things......

Try and take a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, they aren't far and the scenery is truly spectacular! They told us there was a little bit of walking, but it was more like hiking and climbing, but it was well worth it.

Overall I would probably not go back, but that's because I have been now and there are lots of other places still to go, but I wouldn't let anyone put you off - you have to make your own mind up. If you aren't sure, go for a long weekend.
A friend of mine who is white, happened to be born in Morocco. My understanding is that in the early days, it was pretty peaceful, but now, the violence has been risen a bit, due to terrorism. Their land and beach are very beautiful - but sadly, it's not a good time to visit there yet. Maybe one day down the road, who knows.
No but my husband lived in Morocco for a while. The people are Muslims and are nice over there. Also you should visit Casablanca if you go there. It's a nice place.
I am an America living in Morocco. It's a beautiful country, lots of culture, nice to tourists because there are many. I live near Rabat and there are many nices places to visit, and the shopping is great. Casablanca is beautiful and has a huge mosque that lets non-Muslims visit (it is the only one open to non-Muslims in the country). Marrakesh is wonderful as well... I love it here.
