Do you know what a Moroccan cowboy is called? |
Travel Info Do you know what a Moroccan cowboy is called? Travel Tips Well in Morocco, we don't have "cowboys" per se. Unless we are talking bout cow herders and sheppards and in that case none use horses like in the US midwest for example. But the equivalent of a horse rider, we call them in arabic "faris" and the action to ride a horse is "forosiya". It is a sport like in many countries and Morocco hold a yearly week called "Osbo芒 El Faras" or "Week of the Horse"(aka, week of equitation or horseback-riding). There is also a folkloric tradition called "fantasia" where a group of faris (riders), dressed in traditional ( and mostly common across the kingdom) jellabas and serwals and all kind of local/national accessories, holding old-style carabines or musquets (collector carabines decorated and hand-engraved) and race on their horses. When the group arrives to the finish line, they shoot their carabines in the air, chanting and celebrating. Source(s): Native Other Travel Tips A camelpoke.
