Who's been to Morocco - Agadir??

Travel Info
I'm thinking of going on holiday there, but would like some feedback.

Please tell me about it if you've been.

Travel Tips
Hi, I live here in Agadir. As Nomadic said Agadir is a popular tourist destination but not for the tourist interested in historical or traditional Morocco. The current city is only 47 years old as EVERYTHING (minus maybe 2 buildings) was destroyed in the 1960 earthquake. There are areas near by (close enough for day trips) that reflect a more traditional Morocco (Taradouant, Essaouira).
The beach is wonderful and the city is very friendly. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and the people in general are much more friendly and accomdating than some of the cities in the north (sorry folks, it's true).
I think whether Agadir suits you or not depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for. If you want to relax and chill on the beach and enjoy a nightlife Agadir is the place.

Hello, My friend lives in Morocco and I have been there 2 times now. One place that you might want to see is called Marachish. It is a town in Morrocco that has a great big mall looking building, where people sell their wares.

it's so beautiful. however, u must go there.
It's a lovely, and extremely touristy beach resort town. It's very popular with both Moroccans and foreign tourists.

On the other hand, if you're going to visit Morocco and are interested in seeing the culture of the country, Agadir is not the first place I (or most people) would recommend. Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, Meknes, Essaouira, etc are all more culturally and historically interesting cities.
I have not been to Agadir but I do know this... It is considered to be the regional capital if the south of Morocco beyond the Atlas Mountains and it is the second most popular tourist city after Marrakesh. It was destroyed by an earthquake and had to be completely rebuilt in the 1960s, so it does lack some of the traditional elements of older Moroccan cities. The beach there is popular, of course and so are the souks that sell typical Moroccan crafts lke terracotta, iron brass and copper works, leather and Berber jewelry.

I know a woman living in Agadir so I will send her to your question so she can help you more.
