Why does children in Morocco beg for pens? |
Travel Info When my family went to Morocco, everywhere we went, there were children begging, not for money but for pens. Why do they do that? What do they need all thoose pens for? Travel Tips Well, for one, pens are of poor quality in Morocco, typically speaking. And, in rural areas, often hard to find, or expensive. This happens all over Africa - what likely happened is that some tourist awhile back gave some kids some pens, and the kids were happy, so they continued to ask. Pens help them to study, and they're not expensive for tourists, so the kids can ask. It's shameful in some places, as well, for kids to ask for money (and their parents might be angry if they asked for candy). Others I think these children are females only :-) They want them to educate and learn. a similar thing happened to me in Cuba where they beg for soap and toothbrushes, as they can't buy them over there , they seem trivial to us but imagine being without them. because they are penless? Since many children are poor they need sometihng to educate themselves and pens help them to study. They can use it in local schools. Many Africa children are willing to learn. because theysell thepens for food i think Are you sure they were begging for pen? Or maybe you misspelled it. Is the spelling correct? I mean, aren't you missing an "i" just before the last "s"? I had very same experience in Thailands but I didn't misspell anything ;). |
