I am going to Morocco...do I need any vaccine? |
Travel Info how can I get it, if so? Travel Tips ccording to the AA guidebook of Morrocco you just need to have the childhood vaccines (make sure they are all up to date in your country). For some areas it is a good idea to take Malaria prophylaxis, although for areas such as Marakesh and the ourist resorts you wont need it. It is more important to make sure you take the precautions against mossies biting you so use repellant spray, mossie nets if you are rural or in an area of lots of mossies. You may want to get yellow fever vaccine if you are travelling to where the current guidelines say it's a problem (check on the department of travel UK website). As fro a rabies vaccine it does not give you immunity for every rabid dog to bit you, but gives you 24 hours to get to a hospital to get treatment rather than the normal 12. So I would recomend it if you are in deepest darkest parts. The TB vaccine is only given to certain groups in certain countries. My view on it is that if you live a good lifestyle with clean watr and no overcrowding in your living conditions then don't worry. I went to endemic areas of Peru and was fine as I was living a way better life than anyone who was catching it. And incedently all residents of Peru get the vaccine at birth and lots of people still get it, thought to be only about 60% effective (if tht figure is worng I apologise). I would recomend the Hep A vaccine which can be obtained from your GP for free in the UK. The Yellow fever is 拢50 from special yellow fever centres (in the phone book). BCG you wont get anymore in the UK. Rabies costs 拢50 approx and reqires three injections given by your doctor. Hope that helps. Others No vaccines are required for entry into Morocco, however, it is highly recommended that you update all childhood vaccines (MMR, tetanus) and get the Hepatitis A vaccine (Hep B is also recommended). Typhoid and yellow fever are unnecessary for travel into Morocco, unless you plan to visit very rural areas. Yes. Every year Morocco has 20000 new cases of tuberculosis and little less of Malaria for a total of 32 miliion inhabitants. Therefore both diseases are considered endemic (native to the place). This makes it not an epidemy but an endemy. TB Vaccine is mandatory for every new born before being given a birth certificate. You need to have a TB test done, also immunization against Rabies (Imovax pre-exposure) and Typhoid. If you want prophylactic medication for Malaria 1 week before the trip (Doxycycline or Malarone). And take some medications with you for Diarrhea as your body might not have the same antibodies as the native:) i think you do cause there are bugs you pick up but ask your doctor. |
