Is it true? |
Travel Info Is it true that many men in the Middle East prefer to go to Morocco to find a younger, prettier second or third wife? Travel Tips No, it is a wrong observation. Source(s): Residing in Middle East Other Travel Tips well...That's dam Right.. Yes, so much so that there's a law now that requires Saudi men taking foreign wives to notify all prior wives residing in Saudi Arabia. This was done mainly for the protection of Saudi women, although it's had a trickle-down benefit for Morocco women as well, whose poverty often encourages them to marry wealthy Gulf men. I can't speak for other countries, as from what I understand, this phenomenon is more Saudi-Moroccan than anything. And sometimes it isn't about a young or pretty wife - often it's about a wife that's easy to abuse. ** SARAH T: They're "easy to abuse" not because they're Moroccan but because they are taken to KSA, which is far away from their families, and makes it difficult to report. That's the same reason so many Sri Lankan and Filipina workers get held hostage or abused in KSA and UAE. You're kidding if you don't believe this happens. many of may saudi friends told me about it that its damn easy to get a young, cheap and "non-bothering " and a short term wife in morocco. i am not saudi and dono arabic otherwise this fact is interesting. persons who visit morocco Sure some men from the middle east marry Moroccan women. I wouldn't say it is because they are younger or prettier. Morocco is a popular vacation destination for ppl from KSA, Kuwait, Qatar etc etc. It should be of little surprise that some ppl from these countries would find spouses here. I don't understand how the new law requiring Saudi men to produce permission slips from their wives in order to take a 2nd, 3rd or 4th wife from Morocco has a 'trickle-down benefit' for Moroccan women. If anything it is not a benefit for the Moroccan woman it is opposite. Also, why would one assume it has more to do with 'a wife that is easy to abuse'? I don't think the type of women who stay in abusive relationships are limited to a certain country, race, religion. Edit: I am aware of the ruling and it doesn't help Moroccan women. The only stipulation you can make in your marriage contract regarding being the only wife is that if you are the first wife and your husband takes another you are free to divorce. I don't claim it doesn't have a benefit for the Saudi wife. I am aware of the 'subtle' differences though I think the differences are mostly more than subtle. I also am married to a Moroccan and living in Morocco. I also have spent time abroad in the countries we are talking about and have friends from each of these locations. I just think generalizing creates error. |
