Is it true that many upper-class people living in mumbai don't know fluent hindi? |
Travel Info I've heard that most upper-class people in Mumbai use english and don't know hindi fluently. And that they use english mainly when speaking to each other. Is this true? Do these people really not know their own native language fluently? Travel Tips They know Hindi but pretend that they don't know. Others Well as you mentioned UPPER CLASS people.They are big shots who always want to show off and u knw what...they feel hindi is quite a cheap language.they feel odd to talk in it.Thats the reason the chitter chattin is only done in english,not hindi. The town side hunkiez dnt knw hindi,thats a fact...obviously not all but quite a few of them. hypocrite my friend they all are bunch of hypocrites they know everything but pretend as if they are from out of the country Its sad but money makes u do everything many do speak fluent hindi.. but by the word, fluent hindi, if you mean pure hindi, then none in mumbai does,, caus emumbai hindi is pretty different from the hindi spoken in north.. with lots of slangs n both marathi and english influence. there are hypocrates too, who just would speak English http://rawkeron.blogspot.com/2007/03/ker... Its a mix of all. some know hindi but prefer to speak english coz they are more comfortable speaking english. some know hindi but pretend they do not know, these are the hypocraites and show offs. also these will be with a fake american or european accent. and some genuinely do not know hindi, but my guess is these will be a very very small fraction. Most will be the first types. |
