Travel Tips Due to its extensive reach across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and its intensive use by the local urban population, overcrowding has grown to be a compelling problem (4,700 passengers are packed into a 9-car rake during peak hours, as against the rated carrying capacity of 1,700). This has resulted in what is known as Super-Dense Crush Load of 14 to 16 standing passengers per square metre of floor space. Trains on the suburban line are on average more than 4 minutes apart. This would mean that nearly 15 trains run (on all three lines) every hour especially during peak hours! And thats a lot.... Others There are two main Rail corridors operating in Mumbai, western Railway and Central Railway. Each has on and average train leaving every three minutes during peak hours, i.e. 7.00am to 12.00 am and 5.00pm to 11.00pm. Each train has 12 compartments carrying 5- to 6 times actual capacity.(Approx 6000People) The trains and people are very orderly and people are well behaved but these trains are not recommended for outsider during peak hours. as though people would definitely like to help, they do not have time to spare.
