Munich hotels or Munich youth hostels? What's recommended in safety, price, etc?

Travel Tips
Granted this was quite awhile ago (and I don't remember which hostel it was) but my Munich hostel experience was by far my worst in Europe. The locker room had a half inch of hair, dead insects and assorted other detritus layering the floor and there were live insects in the beds. Had I known, I'd have sprung for a hotel room.

Hi!

i have been to munich several times.
Hotels are much more comfortable, but also much more expensive... like everywhere else, even if you want to stay in the city.

There is one youth hostel in Munich which is okay, if you like and know youth hostels. It is not too expensive, you can go there by underground and it is safe. You have your own wardrobe which you can lock up.
The breakfast ist included and very good.
The stuff is friendly.

I was there in 2000 and 2003...
