Anyone know a economical castle to stay at in Munich or near Munich? If so, how far is it, cost, etc?

Travel Info
I plan to visit Germany next summer and looking for a couple of day s at a castle in or near Munich. Any one have any suggestions?

Travel Tips
Germany has hundreds, if not thousands, of castles; only a handful of them have been converted into hotels... and rarely would they be considered "economical". There are no castles IN Munich, and the nearest castles to Munich are primarily to the south or east, to the tune of an hour or two away, depending on your mode of transportation.

I lived in Wiesbaden during my time in Germany, which is right by the Rhein river. There are dozens of castles up that stretch of the Rhein between Hessen and Rheinland-Pfalz (and up towards Koln and the Nordrhein-Westfalen), as well as a few famous ones down the Mosel river between Trier and Koblenz. You can find online listings and maps of those castles, and which ones are hotels--a greater number of those have been converted to hotels, or even hostels. Examples include Festung Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz, Burg Rheinfels in St. Goar, and Burg Rheinstein across from Assmannshausen (there are plenty of others). Except for the few that house hostels, the castles that have hotels in them can rarely be considered "economical"... but it all depends on how much money you're willing to dish out. Personally, I'd recommend staying in a simple hostel in town somewhere, depending on where you're traveling to/from, and just visit castles--they're expensive to stay in, if you can stay in them at all, but they're almost always dirt-cheap just to visit... to the tune of 1-5 euro for an adult ("erwachsen"). Figure out what areas in Germany or any neighboring countries you want to see, and then see if what castles there are to be found in that region.
