Travel Info What is an appropriate tip for a service at a cafe? and at a restaurant? in dutch countries (esp. netherlands) Travel Tips Dutch people rarely tip! They are famous for being cheap. If you don't get good service, don't tip at all. If the service is good: Coffee/Drinks - 1-2 euro Restaurant - round up to the nearest 5. If it's a fancy restaurant make it 10. If you tip more, they'll appreciate it. But it's not expected.... Others Tax & service is included, but you can give 5-10 % as a tip. Huh, in Dutch countries?? There is only one Dutch country and it's named The Netherlands. Anyway, in pubs here it is OK to not give a tip. But if you have been in that pub all evening, being served at your table, it is nice to slip a few extra euros. In a restaurant, a tip would be anything between 10 and 20 percent of the bill. But in a lunch caf茅 where you had a quick bite, 5 to 10 percent (or no tip) will be fine. native Tipping is not customary in EU but usually 10percent of the bill amount is acceptable. frequent traveler |
