I want to work in the Netherlands for 3-4 months from May. but i don't speak dutch. advice/recomendations? |
Travel Info - I do speak simple dutch but not very well. I am wanting to learn more. -I would be interested in office work but i'm realistic so am willing to try new work types. -I have EU citizenship. Travel Tips depends what kind of work, there are places where it is completely acceptable not to talk dutch, fore instance guiding tourists through amsterdam / musea, working in a bar , callcenters , let an agency find work for you Others Amsterdam red light district, You wont need to speak much of the language as fake moaning is universal. most dutch people speak english so don't worry to much about it Over half of the Dutch speak English, the rest speak German or maybe some French. Listen to radio stations like NRD and Radio Veronica to learn more Dutch. As far as jobs are concerned I'm sure there is a requirement for English speaking call centre people. Goed geluk. in theory loads of places cos most dutch folk speak english, but in practice you will be required to have fluent dutch (good way to protect local job market??). There are plenty of international bodies that take on expats though, UN, European Patents Office etc, in The Hague Really it's difficult to find a job if you can't speak Dutch. My Husband (he's Irish)who is here (In Belgium)now 7 years and had 3 years Dutch in school can't find any Job here(discrimination!) also he learnd more Dutch from TV and to read magazine's then in the language school. Belgium and the life here. |
