What is the best way for an American to apply for a Dutch Work Visa?

Travel Info
As an American, living in America, what is the best way to apply for a work Visa for the Netherlands in the US? I plan to move to the Netherlands, but would like my work visa ahead of time.

Travel Tips
Renate is wrong. Our economy is still growing and we can't get the people. If you are a nurse, technician, or a computer programmer we need you. Building constructors too. Although we all speak English, you have to learn Dutch which is not easy.

Ask the Dutch embassy to help you.

You are not going to get a work visa in the Netherlands -no way - unless you marry a Dutch citizen. Unemployment is rampant in Europe and they do not want anyone moving to their country taking their jobs.
Search for a job first. You can begin at www.eurojobs.com and apply for whatever suits your skills. The employer will usually apply for your work permit. This will allow you also to negotiate your pay since living in NL is expensive, as with rest of EU.

Also, you can study the cost of living by visiting some websites for expatriates working in NL. www.expatriates.com is one such website.

1. get a dutch partner invite you to stay with him/her.

2. get an employer here to hire you.
