There are plenty of course books with a DVD included for pronunciation. Why don't you start like that? Then you can always visit the Netherlands and take a course here in combination with a holiday!
Dutch friends will help, but to get the basic, a dutch course or learning book (with cd) will be very helpful. When you need some help translating something, you can ask me when you want to. (I'm Dutch)

Best way to learn written dutch is to watch movies/tv shows in the english language with dutch subtitles. Then upgrade to watch some dutch cartoons without the subtitles.

I was born in Holland, but moved to Australia when I was 6, I then moved back to study when I was 18. The course was in dutch which was hard, but I learnt a lot and fast from tv. And friends/teachers etc are very helpful. I asked them to continually correct me. It was irritating but it helped!

i am learning my dutch through reading the subtitles. you'll be surprised how many words will get into your vocabulary just by doing that. seen "curse of the golden flower" with dutch subs and i was fine. but then again, you'd have to be here to do that.
