Nice places to eat and drink in Amsterdam central? |
Travel Info Nice places to eat and drink in Amsterdam central? Travel Tips Where always did like to go was the Esprit cafe, behind the Esprit clothing store on Spui, great soups , sandwiches and salads and reasonably priced. For drinks go to the Leidseplein, take tram 1,2 or 5 from central station, the perfect place for a drink. Others Banana Bar, just dont have ice in your drink. Or ask how long that ribbon is. having recently come back from 2 weeks in Holland including some time spent in Amsterdam I would give you this advice when you come out of central station in Amsterdam you will see a wide road ahead of you called damark there are plenty of restaurants in this street but don't go to them as they are very tourist ordinated if you go down some of the back streets which are very safe as is the majority of the city you will find lots of nice places to eat at very reasonable prices Unfortunately most of the restaurant in the center are very touristic and expensive... You can try "Cafe De Schutter", very close to Spuistraat on Voetboogstraat 13-15 (http://www.cafedeschutter.nl/).... It is a workers/student place, very old and affordable nice dutch food... as tradition, the ceiling in one room is covered with tea bags, as in old days you would through the tea bag on the ceiling... Another place,"Cafe-restaurant De Ponteneur",has incredible food, fresh vegetables from the market and the best chips in Amsterdam. Though not in the center, but worth the trip, it is close to the Oosterpark and the Tropenmuseam (and on the way to the Dappermarkt, which by it self is worth the visit and was voted the best market of The Netherlands this year). Address: Eerste van Swindenstraat 581 http://www.ponteneur.nl/ Damrak in Amsterdam Centraal has several restaurants offering a variety of cuisine from across the world. If cost is not a constraint, you could just try any of those- Greek, Portugues, authentic Dutch...anyone. frequent visitor Nearby the central station, in an old building which is the temporary home of the "stedelijk museum", there is a restaurant/club on the top (11th) floor called "11". It is not cheap (around 30 euro for a 3 course menu), but quite good and it has incredible views over the city. You can also go for lunch or a cocktail at day or night. The Damrak (see above) has really only tourist-trap type, terrible restaurants. If you like ethnic cuisine, go to the red light district/ Nieuwmarkt instead. The terraces around the square are great when weather is good and in the neighboorhood are many good (and cheap) chinese, thai etc. |
