Do i need medical insurance to go to the netherlands? |
Travel Info i will be going to the netherlands for 87 days to visit my aunt and im a US citizen so i dont need a visa. so do i need to have a medical insurance to ENTER the netherlands? Others not to enter,,, but if ;you get sick or need hospital care then as a foreigner i would expect that you do not "eat from the trough" and pay your own bills. A citizen of the US can enter the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days stay for a half-year period. However, while traveling anywhere, it is always advisable to carry a travel insurance because the cost of medical treatment or repatriation of mortal remains or even expenses involved in paying for lost passports/ baggage can be crippling- if you are not insured. More so in the EU where the exchange rates of the Euro is more pricey than the US$. Since your stay is for 87 days- which borders on the maximum visa-free limit of 90 days, suggest you take a travel insurance that covers both- medical expenses and theft as well as flight delays. Check with your local insurance provider whether your US medical policy extends the cover while abroad. In some cases, the immigration officer processing your entry into the Netherlands can insist on a visa and travel insurance, since your stay is nearly 90 days.
