Hauge vs Arnhem??? |
Travel Info 1)which city of the 2 in the netherlands is cheaper to live? 2)which one is more convenient for shopping&travelling? 3)which one is safer? 4)which city is better for living&study? Travel Tips I was born and live in The Hague/Den Haag... I assume that's what you mean... The Hague is the third largest city in The Netherlands, about 20-30 minutes from Rotterdam (2nd largest), about 45-60 minutes from Amsterdam (capital and largest) and about 40 minutes from Schiphol Airport. (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague are "the big three", together also known as "the Randstad" or "Edgecity" as they really form one large metropolis with several million inhabitants, sometimes including the 4th largest city Utrecht, but they are still very separate entities). Arnhem is a large city (for Dutch standards) but not quite as "large" as The Hague which makes it more quiet in every sense of the word. Arnhem is also quite remote and closer to Germany than anywhere else... The Hague is the seat of Government, residence of the Queen and home to a.o. The International Court of Justice, International War Crimes Tribunal, Europol HQ (European FBI), almost all the embassies incl. US and has a lot of other international institutions/companies, international residents and international schools including a very large and excellent American school (kindergarten through High School). Neither city has a University but both have what is called a Hogeschool (The Hague has 2) which is kind of a vocational (more hands-on, less theory) sub-university. Amsterdam and Rotterdam have excellent REAL universities, as does Leiden (about 20 minutes from The Hague). The Hague is great for shopping, as are Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Arnhem is more quiet. If you like going to clubs, restaurants, museums, the beach and concerts, you'll find The Hague (and Amsterdam/Rotterdam) offers MUCH more than Arnhem does... Of course Arnhem also has very nice places to go... The Hague is a lot larger so there is more crime. But The Hague is a very safe city... You're not that very much more likely to be burglarized or mugged in The Hague as you would be in Arnhem, but on a global standard, both are very safe cities... I would describe Rotterdam and Amsterdam as less safe... Living in a Dutch city is comparable to living in a US city... Amsterdam and Rotterdam would be miniature versions of NYC, The Hague would be a mixture between DC (government), Boston and Cincinnati, OH (atmosphere, things to do) and Arnhem would be a bit like Chillicothe, OH... That might give you some idea (I've been there, that's why I picked them, I have no idea where you live of course) I'm pretty sure Arnhem is the least expensive city to live in of the two. http://www.denhaag.com http://www.arnhem.nl/sites/internet_nieu... Having said all that, I forgot to say that I really love living in The Hague... It's a very nice, clean (well, not as clean as I like though, but we're working on it! ;) ) and safe city and there's always something to do here or nearby... I study part-time at the Haagse Hogeschool so if you have anymore questions about that just let me know... These are the 2 The Hague Hogescholen... De Haagse Hogeschool/The Hague "University" is generally regarded as the better of the two... http://www.inholland.nl/inhollandcom/... http://portal.hhs.nl/portal/page?_pageid... These are generally regarded as the best 3 REAL universities in the The Hague area... A title from either of these three is held in much higher regard than one of any Hogeschool, especially Leiden, Amsterdam a close second... http://www.uva.nl/start.cfm/la=en/th=mai... http://www.leiden.edu/ http://www.eur.nl/english/ There are even more, a very good christian one in Amsterdam too ( http://www.vuamsterdam.com ), if that's what you're into... Others You mean The Hague and Arnhem I suppose. The more east you get in the Netherlands, the more safe and quiet it's to be. So I think Arnhem is a better place to live. Surrounded by woods, it's a lovely city and maybe also cheaper to live. I would definitely chose Arnhem, you can find everything there you need and it is safer I think. But if you like the beach, you'd better chose The Hague. I wonder what study you wanna do? |
