Best Places to live in Maastricht, the Netherlands? (for college students)?

Travel Info
I am moving to Maastricht for a year to study at UM. Trying to find relatively cheap and good condition apartment to rent for a year. Preferably close to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Was advised against the guesthouse.
Looking online and getting more and more confused...

Universiteit Maastricht says;

Studying and living on your own, in a room with a family or in a student house, often go hand in hand. Fortunately, Maastricht does not have long waiting lists for a place to live. The city has plenty of housing, and you will be able to find a place to live relatively quickly. However, it is always wise to begin your search early so you can begin the academic year from a place that suits you and where you feel at home. When you look for accommodation, you will not really need to take 鈥榞ood鈥?or 鈥榖ad鈥?neighbourhoods into account because Maastricht is one of the safest cities in the Netherlands. The city鈥檚 small size and the many new friends you meet in the tutorial groups will quickly make you feel at home in Maastricht!

Tips

There are of course various ways of finding a room in Maastricht. Perhaps you have friends or family in Maastricht. If so, let them know you're looking for a room. They might know of something that鈥檚 available or will ask around for you. There are also various bulletin boards at UM where you can post a 鈥榬oom wanted鈥?message. Be creative, and offer an original reward. Many students prefer to find a new roommate themselves, and they just might notice your message first! And remember to check out the bulletin boards to see whether anyone happens to be looking for a roommate. Write down the phone number, and then call them straight away. You can also place an advertisement in Dagblad De Limburger or Limburgs Dagblad (large regional newspapers) or in the university newspaper, the Observant. But take into account that the Observant is not published during the summer holidays.

Perhaps you've already seen a room for rent. Then you're probably not the only one. For some rooms, you need to be introduced first. In that case, you first go and meet the other students living in the house and take a look at the room and kitchen, etc. The students living there then decide which newcomer would be the best fit for their house. Even if there is no special viewing evening arranged, you should still first pay a visit to wherever it is you鈥檙e thinking of living. That's the only way to find out whether it's really what you're looking for.
