Amsterdam as a US citizen?

Travel Info
Does anyone know how long a US citizen can stay in Amsterdam before one gets in trouble for staying too long? No papers, no visa, no work permit. I'd be mostly working online over a long holiday.

Alos if you know any good rentals lemme know!

Thanks

Yeah, if you get caught you can't stay one day. If you have NO papers and no visa you are in Holland illegally. The netherlands has a problem with illegal immigration (mostly sex workers) so the cops are vigilant and they DO check peoples papers.
With no work permit you will get busted. You at least need a visa, which is good for up to 3 months.
You don't need a visa as a US citizen to stay in the Netherlands, see http://www.minbuza.nl/en/welcome/comingt...

Now of course they can ask you questions when you enter the country about a return ticket (which you require) and if you have sufficient funds to support yourself.

As for working, if you have an American employer who pays you in the US, I don't think you'll have a problem. If however you want to work in Amsterdam for a Dutch business (even as a freelancer/contractor) you require a work visa.
You have a passport right? I was just there and they did NOT ask how long I was staying when I went through customs.....Not totally sure though. As for rentals we found a great apartment through a website called Loving Amsterdam. It was not much more $ than a hotel and you have more space and a kitchen. We saved a lot of money cooking our own food! If you do go to a restaurant make sure you ask for tap water (if you want water) we went out to eat one night and three little bottles of waster was 12 euro! that is $16.20 us dollars! Pissed me off! Anyway hope you have a blast! We did!
You can stay in the EU for 90 days on the Visa Waiver Programm.
If you are looking for a room to stay, look at the website listed below.
