Amsterdam early August - Bad timing? |
Travel Info I heard there's going to be a gay pride around early august, which would be interesting to watch, but that's now what I am travelling for. I wonder if I'll be able to walk around the city, and do sightseeing, or will it be too crowded at this time of the year? Travel Tips August is a good month to travel to Amsterdam. Temperature is good and there are all kind of "tourist" attractions. This mainly means that there are more things that are organised, such as festivals or events. Amsterdam is, by the way, absolutely a safe city. Just don't walk with your camera in sight or leave your stuff unattended. But thats everywhere. Believe me, I live in Amsterdam. BTW: check out this site for more (official) info: http://www.iamsterdam.com/ Others I am going in November for the canibus cup !! so yes I would say you have bad timing. The gay parade is only a few days and is mostly on the water, the canals. One day there's this big gay pride canal tour and then it's busy in the city center because a lot of people watch it. Furthermore there parties but it's not busy like Queens day or anything like that. You'll be fine to go sightseeing etc. Enjoy! Live in Amsterdam Amsterdam is always crowded with tourists... August is usually just warmer than most of the other months... The only times it's really really crowded are on Queen's day (which has already been this year) and whenever Ajax or the national football team have won something... The Netherlands is a very permissive society.Especially so in Amsterdam. Drug use and smoking pot is done in public.Be very carefull and Amsterdam is not a clean safe city. experience. |
