enjoy your trip.
Holland is such a tiny country, no dutch city is distant from another dutch city. I liked Rotterdam and a tiny town called Operdus. It's so small I felt a bit claustrophobic there. Small country w/ big ppl who have good senses of humor (i like the dutch, though. but maybe I'm biased b.c. I'm mixed w/ dutch =).
try the Vondel Park. they have musical performance esp on the weekends.
another village worth visiting outskirts of Amsterdam - Volendam. old fishing village. u can go by bus from Amsterdam. www.arriva.nl
Music? Wouldn't know.
My advice -> stay away from Amsterdam. It is a tourist trap with inflated prices, dirty and full of pickpockets. Hey, I AM a Dutchman and I worked in this city.
Go to Haarlem, Delft, Leiden, Gouda, Zaandam, all within 45 mins by train from Amsterdam. Hotesl are cheaper outside A'dam too.
Jef is right. I love Amsterdam but I had the advantage of having friends there who showed me the real Amsterdam and not just the tourists' Amsterdam. It is REALLY expensive compared to neighboring towns.

The Dutch do love their music though! Try this website:

It's in dutch but most of thelinks for the festivals have english versions.
ofcourse you have the northsea jazz festival, not sure if it's sold out but it's a great festival and it's in rotterdam nowa days. www.northseajazz.nl

other nice towns are DenHaag and scheveningen close to each other, nice day out, den haag is where our parlement resides.

rotterdam is modern and nice, lots of modern art musea's and buildings, nice clubs i hear, never been clubbing there yet.

enjoy your stay
