The money students can get for their expenses when they live in another city than their parents is 796 euro a month. So people think they can live from this amount of money. Of course this is not much and it is very difficult to find cheap housing.

An average apartment cost about 300 - 600 euro a month. In the big cities you can find an apartment (three - 5 rooms) for that money, in small villages you might find a house (three to 5 rooms). But their are long waiting lists. Many people pay more. Students would rent a student apartment, or rent a flat with others.

the costs for energy of an average household in an apartment are 72 euro a month.
the costs for a phone are 15 - 25 euro a months
the costs for drinking water are about 150 a year per household.
