Dutch cookies? |
Travel Info This has been driving me crazy for months. I remember there being a special kind of cookie in Nederland, festive, maybe eaten mostly around Kerstmis, and I can't remember the name of it! For some reason I'm thinking it's called "spekulaas" or something like that...again, I think it's kind of a Christmas cookie, and maybe it has like some filling in it sometimes? Please help me to restore my sanity. Travel Tips so many kind of cookies in Holland. Speculaas - It has a rich, spicy flavor, and is really crunchy. Mergpijpjes - A light cake, covered with a cream layer, marzipan and chocolate. Gevulde Speculaas - the filled speculaas. It's really soft, spicy dough, filled with a lovely almond paste, and topped of with real almonds! This is mostly eaten around 'Sinterklaas', a typically Dutch holiday, like Christmas. Only available in Nov-Dec. Krakelingen (puff pastry) A lovely puff pastry, shaped like a pretzil, topped of with a sugar coating. Gevulde Kano's (almond pastries) A soft cookie, filled with delicious almond paste, topped of with real almonds Gevulde Koeken (filled with almond paste) A soft cookie filled with almond paste stroopwafels Others Spekulaas is the right name, you will find it in Holland and Belgium (the best) This is was a Christmas cookie long time agoo, now you buy it in every decend store all year long!
