Housing is NOT cheap. Cost of living is also not really cheap, but not too bad either. A better choice would be right outside of Amsterdam, and use public transport to get to Amsterdam. For a normal household of 2 people you should consider a monthly income of roughly US$1500 to 2000 if you really want to live in Amsterdam. For rules on immigration - check www.ind.nl for detailed information. depending on why you are here. you ought to have some knowledge of dutch.. that's also a new immigration law. its very complicated. Best way is to get a job here and have your employer here to apply a residence permit for you. another, if you have a partner in this country.. then, its a long and tedious process through the immigration. what the reason you move to Amsterdam - it's too windy, its cold and sun only one in ten days............. WHY? But you need to have a really good reason to move in here - I really mean it ;) Things first you should do - go to Holland Embassy at the country you're in now. Ask for visa - moving visa - fiancee visa - student visa or working visa, whatever you have in your mind ;) then they will give you the idea how to do the procedure to moving in.
