Amsterdam for one night....good, cheap hotel in centre ...?

Travel Info
as near as possible to art museums and cafes. Any advice on hotels and best things to see and do with just one full day?

Travel Tips
The Bellevue is great. It is within walking distance to Centraal station (no carrying luggage around streets) and it is extremely well priced. The rooms are on the smaller side but at 90 Euros per night, you can't complain. Take a look at the website. All rooms offer plasma flatscreens, a wall safe and have been recently updated (very modern). Also check out the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com and www.hotels.nl for this and other hotels.

1-Day Itinerary

1) Take a 45 minute canal tour (right from Centraal train station). This gives a great overall idea of the city.

2) Visit the the Anne Frank House Museum. You will want to purchase your tickets on-line to avoid any lines at all. They just started offering advanced ticket sales this year and people are very slow to pick up on it. You must specifiy a 1 hour time slot when you will arrive though. Like a reservation or a t-time. They sell a limited number of tickets for each day and time slot. Buy early for best choice.

3) Walk towards Dam Square and get lunch.

4) Visit a brown cafe. Indulge yourself or chose to only buy a drink and observe.

4) Visit the Red Light District towards the early evening so you can check it out during dusk and getting into dark.

5) Nightclubbing in Leidseplein. A tram goes directly from The Bellevue to this nightly hotspot square.

As like anywhere in Europe, just watch for pickpockets and scams.

Try "The Last Watering Hole" its a dorm type accomodation in the street behind the police station. 2 mins from central square

New Amsterdam tours does a free 3-hr walking tour of the center of the city--most info in shortest amount of time (and a good price). They meet every day at 11 am and 3 pm in front of the Visitor's Center by the Centraal Station. I'd also recommend a canal cruise...you can pick those up on the Damrak--the big street connecting the Centraal Station and the Dam square.
