O! is it safe to live there? Travel Tips Do not believe the stories that Amsterdam like paradise. Unless you have a work permit you will not get real jobs, which will force you to do dirty, dangerous and otherwise bad jobs. If you do not have a work permit you can not get health insurance, you will not build up credit in social security, which means that when you fall ill or have an accident you have no money and no way of getting help, medical and for income. To apply for visa and work-permits you will need to contact a Dutch embassy or consulate. But expect to be send away, as many people apply and only a few will be accepted. When it looks like you will be accepted you will need to start learning Dutch before you are even admitted to the system. To find more information search for The Netherlands, and read the information on the website of the people deciding about visa and work permits: http://www.ind.nl/EN/ Others it is not safe.. just like any huge cities. but amsterdam is the true 'sin city' you will have fun.... Amsterdam is quite a small city, and very crowded, especially in the summer. My son has lived there for almost ayear and it is a very easy city for people to live in from all over the world- you wil feel welcome. There are all sorts of jobs available and speaking English will help as many people speak English in Amsterdam, It is a very safe place to live if you are sensible, like most places. it is very heavily and strictly policed so if you fall foul of the law you will know about it. Ignore the claims about sin-city, this is a only a small part of what Amsterdam is- a major European port with lots of opportunities for everyone. |
