What do you guys eat in Amsterdam? |
Travel Info Just wondering- I've read that you eat fried potato chips with mayo on the streets in Amsterdam. Could you please descibe other types of food that you eat? Anything I should absolutely try that I wouldn't find anywhere else? Dank-u-wel! Travel Tips I agree with Endie. You should also try "boterham met hagelslag": an open sandwich with butter and tiny chocolate things. Then there's the "kroket", a snack usually eaten with the french fries & mayonaise combo (did you get that from Pulp Fiction?). A kroket needs to be eaten with mustard. Try our pancakes ("pannenkoeken") as well, as they are totally different from the ones in the US. A traditional Dutch pancake contains bacon (and is fried in the bacon's fat instead of in butter) and is eaten with syrup. It's a dinner dish rather than a breakfast dish. A "stamppot" is a very traditional Dutch winter dish. It's mashed potatoes with some winter vegetable (usually some sort of cabbage, or otherwise carrots) and sausage or some other sort of meat. It's made and served in one pan. It's eaten with loads of gravy. Or go to Hema (a Dutch department store, to be found all over the country) and order a "halve rookworst" (some sort of sausage). You can't get more Dutch than that! And as Indonesia and Surinam are former Dutch colonies, there is a lot of lovely food from those countries as well. A traditional Dutch-Indonesian dish is "rijsttafel", loads of small but very tasteful dishes! Source(s): I am Dutch. Other Travel Tips they eat their burgers Food Silly it could be a burger & fries or a soda what ever they choose 2 eat. Febo.... raw hamburger sandwich close by rembranndt square Hash cookies |
