Travel Tips
I don't know how much money you are planning on spending, but for couples, I would recommend looking for a small hotel or B&B in the Jordaan area, away from the tackier Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein parts of town. You may also have success in the 'museum quarter', but I find there is less to do here.

I've found the website http://www.weekendhotel.nl/hotels/amster... very helpful at finding decent priced, very nice hotels in these areas.

If you want the better hotels, restaurants and clubs, head for the south of the city around the leiseplein area. it is more expensive but better for couples. if you want the more seedier side of Amsterdam stay to the north, more coffeeshops and near to the red light district.
