Amsterdam... hotel / cafes?

looking for a smoke friendly hotel and cafes.

need to stay somewhere where i can be confident my laptop/camera/credit cards will be safe. also travelling alone, and female, so don't want too seedy of a place.

*PREFER my own bathroom, but not having too much luck finding a place so far*

not really planning on going crazy. looking to relax, get some good smoke, maybe take a canal ride, walk around a little, get some good dinner and maybe check out an art museum.

not looking for sex or hard drugs.

Sounds like the perfect Amsterdam vacation...

I do that same vacation in Amsterdam quite often. Two or three days is perfect. I have the same requirements for hotel.

When using my own money (rather than a business account) I try to stay at the Cordial Hotel. I've stayed in many places in Amsterdam and it really is the best value for money. Most rooms are ensuite bathrooms, you can specify during the booking. The location is just past Dam Square on Rokin, so very central. I usually have expensive stuff with me and have never had anything stolen any of the more than a dozen times staying there.

I use www.hotels.nl to book it. You can get a single room for 45 euros per night. I doubt you'll find a better price in the central area. The reservation is secure and instant (no waiting for feedback).

I usually smoke in the room with the window open and have never heard a complaint from the management. At the fancier hotels, they usually have a little sign in the room threatening to charge you 100 euros if they can smell it in the room.

You'll find excellend "coffeeshops" all over town. My favorite is the 420, but you'll pass a hundred others trying to find it.
