What district to stay at in Amsterdam?

My boyfriend and I are going to Amsterdam this summer. What district in the city is safe and centrally located?

Amsterdam is VERY small. Find something near the main train station and you should be fine for getting to everything and being quite safe.
Amsterdam is smaal and has a good public transport system. The city doesnt have real dangerous neiberhoods but i dont advise u to stay in de blijmer. (How ever if ure in to a different Amsterdam experience and love multicultural experiences its a great neiberhood.
you can stay at rembrandtplein, leidseplein or near dam square (spuistraat)

recomendation: rembrandt hotel by herengrahct canal
I stayed at the Hotel Flipper, it was a short streetcar ride down to the main district, which you will enjoy, also I believe there are boats for rent on the canal, they are pretty much docked there all the time, and Flipper haas a website to check out also, have fun
Stay near the center!!
Don't get a hotel in Oost-Zuid, that is a bad area of Amsterdam and it isn't in the center.
