Travel Info Whats the cheapest way to get from the New Orleans Airport to the French Quarter? Walking is not an option :) Travel Tips New Orleans' airport (MSY) is about 15 miles from the city center. The airport shuttle (shared van) costs $13 + tip one-way per person between New Orleans' city center (including the French Quarter) and the airport. A taxi costs $28 + tip for one or two passengers (with an extra fee for more than two passengers). There is public transit between the airport and New Orleans: Go to the following site and the E-2 airport route has a link on the front page: www.jeffersontransit.org However, the public bus takes you to an area a couple of miles from the city center and you will need a taxi from there to your hotel. The drop-off point is in a neighborhood that was flooded by Katrina and is not repaired, so getting a taxi may not be easy. I recommend taking the shuttle unless your hotel provides a free shuttle. Others Hitchhike? OK, so this is just a tiny bit cheating. Find out which hotels have shuttle services to the airport and hop a ride when you see the appropriate shuttle pull up to the terminal. Call a CAB. This little trick works in most cities. In case you were wondering. check the city bus routes to see if they go out to the airport. it may take a bit longer, and you may have to change buses a time or two, but it would be significantly cheaper than taking a cab. If you have 3 people in your group then a cab is the cheapest way. If there is only one or two people then the shuttle is the cheapest. Same on the return trip. |
