Are there any good and cheap hotels in New Orleans? |
Travel Info Are there any good and cheap hotels in New Orleans? Travel Tips There sure is - here is a list - just in time for Mardi Gras - Source(s): http://cheaphotelneworleans.tripod.com... Other Travel Tips You will not find a decent hotel in New Orleans' city center (including the French Quarter) for less than $90 to $100 per night. There are less expensive hotels in the metro area, but you will almost certainly need a car (or taxis) for transportation. For example, there are less expensive hotels "uptown" in New Orleans, on or near Saint Charles Avenue. However, the Saint Charles Avenue streetcar (public transit) is not yet back in operation due to damage to the line caused by Hurricane Katrina. There are busses instead, but not very frequent. The St. Ann Marie Antoinette Hotel mentioned in the link provided by Katy C is in a great location (in the middle of the French Quarter) and the price quoted for March is a great deal! Note that you have to add 15% to the published hotel rate to account for the taxes. Mardi Gras 2007 ended on February 20th. It was great and the city handled about 800,000 visitors w/o any problems. The next big event is the Jazz Festval, which is always the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May. The murder rate in New Orleans seems to come up in almost every set of answers about the city. Almost 100% of the murders in New Orleans involve drug dealers killing each other due to drug territory competition. That doesn't make it OK but it's reality. You really only have to worry about being murdered in New Orleans if you plan to sell illegal drugs here. Use the same common sense you need in every large city and there is little chance of you being a victim of any crime. The Columns Hotel on St. Charles Avenue. Affordable rooms, beautiful old house/ bed & breakfast. Fantastic Sunday brunch. Great place to stay - centrally located on the streetcar line. You can hop on the streetcar to go Downtown/ French Quarter (10 minutes) or uptown - to Audubon Park / River Bend (8 minutes). Lived in New Orleans for 5 years. Why on earth would you want to vacation in what seems to be turning into murder central? Forget Mardi Gras, it's not worth it. DONT LISTEN TO MS. INGY IT SO TOTALLY WORTH IT............THE HOTEL ILL PICK IS THE ROYAL SONESTA.............PLUS CRIME ISNT BAD DOWN HERE PPL BEEN SPREADIN RUMORS THAT ARE NOT TRUE......COME EXPERIENCE THE BIG EASY YOUR SELF.......YOULL LOVE THE MUSIC ,CULTURE ,AND FOOD........ |
