If you live in the area, what is going on with New Orleans?

I mean, like rebuilding, and current efforts, etc.

There are many positive stories, that sometimes go un-told. Musician's Village, ( A habitat for humanity project), is a shining example.
There are also many negative problems. Difficulty buying insurance is a prime example.
Our leadership here, leaves something to be desired. Our mayor makes insulting comments, our Governor couldn't make a decision to save lives for three days, and our legislator ostracized her self from the current administration by traveling to Cuba when asked not to, and our congressman is under indictment. Mississippi is doing a much better job at managing the recovery process, but the pockets of their politicians are not quite as deep.
We need to stop cow tailing to the needs of the unemployed, and end the entitlement mentality. There is no excuse to be unemployed here now, other than total disability. We can no longer afford to support an entire population of public housing, welfare recipients. Getting the politicians to realize this is a different story. The only thing they see is a voting block that they don't want to loose.

i live in new orleans and apparently the "rebuilding" issue that was executed some time ago is not of importance as it was when the hurricane it. A lot of people are still in need and without jobs, no homes, transportation, etc..it is very sad and if you watch some news channels, they talk about the rebuilding effort but there is no action. i was displaced after the hurricane with my 2 children but by the grace of God, i was able to obtain a job and an apartment as well. A lot of people are not as lucky as i was but now the government is only concerned primarally on who "screwed" them out of money and wants that money back instead of putting their efforts into the people who are still in need. it's a sad world that we live in today, instead of helping people who really need it, they put their main focus on something of less importance
rebuilding is slow but the toursit industry is back, which brings funds into the city. maybe half of the pre katrina population is back alot communte from outside the city some from two hours away. rent is high and housng is few and far between but rates are slowy going down and landlords are dropping rent prices because not enough people are grabbing to pay $1000 a month for an aprtment that was maybe $400-500 a month pre katrina. crime is also and issue but mainly say 98% in drug areas not in the general population as some medai outlets have been saying.
LOTS OF TOURIST ARE COMMING BACK AND SO ARE FAMILY SO YOU CAN SAY LIFE IS COMMING BACK AND THATS A GREAT THING ..
NOLA FOREVER
Not much, the promised federal money is slow in coming, some areas look the same as after Katrina, especially areas in the 9th vWard.
I live here and I think the Federal and Local Gov's just dont care anymore or dont want to be bothered there are so many loose ends that it's unreal. The goverment needs a seriouse house cleanning on all Local, State, and Federal levels. The tourists are comming back but not as before, the work here or shall I say lack of employment is due to (and this is not a racial thing) but all the illegal immigrants that are here ILLEGALLY is unbeleivable cheap labor means no jobs for LOCALS.
