Any opinions on Algiers Point? |
Travel Info What is the area like? Is it considered a safer area to live? How long of a commute would it be to Uptown, off of St. Charles?? Travel Tips its a pretty area. its on the westbank. so you would cross the river or take the ferry. since your going uptown then you would take the bridge because the ferry would put you out of the way. you just take the mississippi river bridge and follow the exit signs. its is a very safe area, hardly every hear about that side of town. its considered new orleans even through its across the river almost into the next parish. i would say the commute would take you maybe 30 minutes if you leave early, just because so many people live across the river now, traffic is terrible. so you have to leave early. pre-katrina it probaly would have taken (me at least i don't know about everyone else) about 15 minutes. there is a picture of the historic area of algiers point on wikipedia Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/algiers_poi... Other Travel Tips Algiers Point is on the west bank of the Mississippi, almost directly across the river from the French Quarter. Uptown & Saint Charles Avenue are on the east bank of the river so the commute would require crossing by either the bridge or the ferry. Saint Charles is 80 blocks long, and where on the Avenure you want to go matters a lot. Probably 15 to 30 minutes by car via the bridge will get you where you want to go unless there are traffic problems. I am not familiar with AP so cannot offer an informed opinion on what it is like. Algeirs has a pretty high murder rate. The New Orleans area is small, especially compared to Houston, so i don't think you'll find the commute from anywhere in the area a problem. |
