Views from roosevelt island? |
Travel Info I read in time out new york guide that the views from the riverfront promenade in roosevelt island is nice...is it? does anyone know if it's safe at night and if it is easily accessible from the tram station? I will be visiting NYC in a few weeks and am looking for nice sights. Thanks. Travel Tips Don't use the subway to get to Roosevelt Island - take the tramway at First Avenue and 60th Street - costs $2 - same as the train. Others Roosevelt Island, sits directly between the Borough of Queens & Manhattan, and is technically part of Manhattan (has a 212 area code), but is only accesible by vehicular traffic from Queens. It used to be called Blackwell's Island & then Welfare Island, before getting its' current name. The island has gone through a great deal of renovation and has wonderful views, reagrdless of whether you look West (into Manhattan) or East (towards Queens). It can be accessed by the Tram or the "Q" train (a new subway stop that has been in existence less than 20 years). The island is patrolled by Special Patrolmen and the waterfront promenades are well lit as is the Lighthouse at the Northern end of the island. Me - former NYC resident & Roosevelt Island visitor |
