Going to upstate New York the last week of july or first week of august I need an idea of what towns are nice? |
Travel Info I need ideas of places to stay so can you please give me Need ideas of what places are nice, what is around the area (anything you can think of) and, the region it's in (Mountanous many lakes etc.), what events take place during the week stated above. Any where within a 5 hour trip of NYC. A town on a lake in a mountain area with many things to do would be best but any other places you put I will also look into Travel Tips I love vacationing in upstate NY. You can never go wrong visiting Lake George. Lake George itself is touristy, but stay in Boltons Landing. It's a charming little town that has shops and live music. Ithaca is also a nice place to visit too. Cornell University, Cayuga Lake, the gorges....all very nice. Lake Placid and White face mountain are also favorites of mine. Not to mention Buffalo where you can get the best wings in the world. Then there is also Niagara Falls -- but venture onto the Canadian side. It's nicer. As far as places to stay are concerned, it depends on what you like. To get a real feel for that Adirondack region and/or Finger Lakes region camping is nirvana. But there are lots of hotels and B&Bs around. Just check out local magazines and papers. Have a great time. Others Well, Woodstock/Saugerties - a town in the woods, this town basically only appeals to people who are fans of The Band or Bob Dylan, but still, its a beautiful place to go which is plotted right near the Catskills. There are some hotels: Bed By The Stream Woodstock Country Inn Experience Outstanding Hospitality Enchanted Manor of Woodstock Saugerties Comfort Inn Ulster County Tourism Quality Inn, Kingston You can also visit Bethel, NY. Where Woodstock '69 took place at, which is in Sullivan County. Palenville, New York is a nice place to look into, home to the tallest falls in New York, Kaaterskill Falls.
