What is the best side of the plane to sit on when flying into New York (JFK)? |
Travel Info What is the best side of the plane to sit on when flying into New York (JFK)? Travel Tips Uh, the inside. Most planes will fly a landing pattern (though some are cleared for straight in), which means that they fly three side of a rectangle. Which runway they use generally depends on the wind direction. If you can be seated on the side of the plane toward the inside of the traffic pattern rectangle, odds are better that you'll see more of the city while coming in to land. I hope that helps. I think prevailing winds would be from the East, but even though the standard pattern is a left pattern (turns to the left) some runways dictate a right pattern, so even the pilot can't be sure which it will be that day. An air traffic controller at JFK would be able to give you the best answer. But if the winds are different that day... who knows? Source(s): Flying Other Travel Tips Usually the left side of the plane will offer you the best view if Manhattan because the the prevailing winds are from the NW landing on runways 13R/31L or 13L / 31 R or the prevailing winds are from the NE landing on runways 4R/22L or 4L/22R I used to live in Queens directly under the the JFK flight path me-NYC native and frequentJFK user & www.AirNav.com> KJFK I've taken that flight many times and mostly the left side is best. Esp if you are flying at night either side is good with all the lights. Plus I've experienced circling before landing so either side will be good. |
