Is manhattan dangerous by night? |
Travel Info is true that the police pick ups you if and take you home if its late? If i'm going just ONE night (have to do a plane connection), is a good idea wander all night long? Travel Tips I'm going to try to translate this for everyone else's benefit. You are flying into NYC -JFK ?- late at night and you have an early morning connecting flight but you don't want to spend the money on a hotel room or spend the night in the airport so your solution is to spend all night exploring NYC . Great idea Personally I would spend my time in the Village , SOHO, Chinatown/ Little Italy > The subways run all night and you can use them to explore the city . Buy The $7.00 MetroCard it will allow you all day usage for one price The Staen Island Ferry runs all night too and it's free NYC bars close at 4:30 and open up 90 minutes later. As long as you are behaving yourself and not placing yourself or others in too much danger NYPD will pretty much leave you alone. Obey the No Flash rule no cash , no bling, minimal flesh Really late at night , walking/ floating down the middle of the street is acceptable Others lol i live in nyc and i hang out in manhattan until the sun comes up I grew up in Manhattan and have never been in a dangerous situation. Just stick to major streets. It's quite busy in the Village, in Times Square and on Broadway and Columbus Ave on the West Side. It's quite deserted by Wall Street, so don't go to Ground Zero during the night. Explore and have fun. In the 70s, Manhattan was dangerous. Drug dealers, prostitutes, gangs roamed the streets at night. That all started to change in the early 80s when someone at City Hall finally realized that tourism was big business. Today, there are cops everywhere at all hours of the night in Manhattan. The police do not provide an escort or taxi service, and will not take you home. They might question you if you seem to be in what they regard as an inappropriate location at an odd hour. Wandering the streets aimlessly all night long might well be an excellent method of attracting police attention, since Manhattan has several thousand TV cameras, and if you are noticed wandering it will get their curiosity. Some parts of Manhattan are dangerous. The Lower East Side, the west side from 125 to 158 Street, the East side above 97 Street. And it is illegal to be in a park from Midnight to one hour before dawn. Stay in busy areas and you will be fine. hell no you shoulnt wander ny at nigt robberies, fondalling... i love ny but ill b damned if i go out past 11pm |
