Can a baby ride a taxi cab in New York without a carseat? |
Travel Info We are leaving to NYC tomorrow morning, but we are not sure if we have to take our carseat to be able to ride a taxicab with our 1 year old baby? Do we have to take a carseat? Travel Tips It could be worth a cabbie's hack license to take a one year old without a car seat. And the parents could face child endangerment charges if a cop sees this. Don't even think of having a child that young in a moving vehicle in NYC without a carseat. Others Legal or not, safety should be your prime concern - which means taking, and properly installing the carseat in any cab you go in with your child, Common sense Obviously you've never ridden in a NY cab before. Sweetheart, you are going to want to strap your child (safet first!) and YOURSELF :) yes. but you should be thinking of your childs' safety. you question was almost funny to me, a native New Yorker. You see in NYC, NO ONE WEARS A SEATBELT WHILE IN A TAXI. Not ever the driver. Not only that, but the driver will have a rather unfortunate tendency to drive hard and fast. That said, no, she will not have to have a carseat, and the driver would probably rather you have her on your lap or something, but for her safety, yeah, I would recommend you get her in a carseat. A side note: If your arriving via plane, DO NOT step into a yellow cab past 11:30PM. Seriously, these guys are on energy drinks at this time, and they tend to skid on the highways... |
