How can one get to the ferry to Liberty Island from JFK Airport? |
Travel Info Could someone help me out with step by step directions from JFK Airport to the South Island ferry terminal? We will be using public transit so I just need to know which buses/subway lines to take. Travel Tips AirTrain to the end at the Jamaica Station of the Long Island Rail Road $5.00 Go downstairs and buy a ticket to The Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn Station $5.00-$7.00[ depending upon time of day ] When you buy the LIRR ticket also buy a MetroCard for the subway It's $2.00 for a single ride $ 7.00 for using it all day and there are a lot of other multi-use plans available Take the LIRR to Brooklyn Take the #4 or #5 Train to the first stop in Manhattan which is Bowling Green. Exit the subway and walk a very short distance west to Battery Park. If you go on a straight line from th crooswalk on State Street it will take you to where you buy the ferry tickets. Personally because of all the restrictions limiting access to the Statue of Liberty , I would stay on the boat when it docked there and make the boat's next stop of Ellis Island my primary destination. Just an idea. Source(s): native Other Travel Tips above directions are good. You could also take the airtrain to the howard beach JFK station (that part is free) and take the A train to Chambers street. Its right at Ground zero and a short walk to South Ferry. The above poster is right, get the fun pass if you plan on taking a few trips in one day. Just be careful with the subway on weekends due to track work. The 4,5,6 he details above have not been running under the river to NYC some weekends. WWW.MTA.info has maps, schedules and most importantly weekend and late night diversions. Know whats up before you go! You may have to plan a alternate route, but there are several you can take. The 4,5,6, R, 1,2,3,A,C,E trains all stop pretty close to south ferry and the Statue of Liberty boats. Check out Governors Island also. Pretty cool, especially during the week. |
