Others I have lived in Brooklyn all my life and I have never heard of that game. I believe it's called Skelly. I don't know if I spelled it right, but that's how it's pronounced. I know that different color wax is used in different bottle caps, but I don'tknow the rules. This is discussed in the book _Fortress of Solitude_ by Jonathan Lethem. I'm too recent a Brooklyn transplant to fully get it. Brooklyn's the Skelly Capital of the World. A playing board is drawn on the sidewalk with chalk. Your playing piece is usually a metal bottle cap (beer) - you fill it with something for more weight - melted candle wax, melted crayons or melted asphalt. You shoot the cap with your fingers, aim for the points on the board and then try to shoot your opponent's caps out of the box - till only the winner's cap is left. Notorious B.I.G. mentions the game in his song "Things Done Changed" Remember back in the days, when n..... had waves Gazelle shades, and corn braids Pitchin pennies, honies had the high top jellies Shootin SKELLY , m.................. was all friendly Loungin at the barbeques, drinkin brews with the neighborhood crews, hangin on the avenues Turn your pagers, to nineteen ninety three, etc, etc, etc |
