manderin oriental on 61st street columbus circle have great views of central park and hudson river. they have great service too. their cheapest room goes from $700+ a night.
We are going in Oct and are staying at the Salsbury Hotel. It is right below Central Park. The online rates were good. I've also heard the Edison Hotel is a good place to stay in Times Square.
Honestly, I stayed at St. Mark's Hotel when I went..

It's in a great location! It may not have the greatest reputation but I thought it was just fine, and the price was in my range, too!

waldorf(about $400 a night)
marriott marquis(times square, about $400 a night)
marriott east side(about $450 a night)

if u go to the marriott marquis ther eis the whole times square aroudn u like the wax musuem and a lot of shopping
