Others They're to smart. I've had a female taxi driver in NYC. They're not non-existent, just not common. My guess is that woman tend not to be interested in that kind of job as much as men. Or maybe women are just awful drivers. j/k.... maybe. because they don't get lost and the taxi companies would never make any money with all the extra billing? Becouse womens are pretty! Based on U.S. Census data, this report shows that the number of taxi/limo drivers reached an all-time high in 2000. The number of drivers has expanded in both major metropolitan areas as well as the rest of the country, indicating that taxi and limousine services are gaining greater importance in the transportation system throughout the United States. As the number of drivers has increased, the composition of the driver work force has changed. While the majority of taxi and limousine drivers are U.S.-born men, women and immigrants have established a significant presence in this occupation. Immigrants are particularly important in major metropolitan areas, where they constitute over 50% of taxi/limo drivers. The number of female drivers has also increased in recent decades. Unlike immigrants, however, women are more prevalent outside major metro areas. There are some female drivers. But some do not meet all the qualifications, ie:poor english (all of the female drivers I have encountered were fluent in english) poor hygiene (all of the female drivers had no offensive body odour) not knowing their way around the city (female drivers know where they are going and if they need directions they will ask) another qualification that female drivers do not meet is the one requiring that drivers be arrogant and surly and refusing to follow the passenger's directions (female drivers are courteous and will take a passenger's suggestions on the route to be taken) |
