However, as reference points, the standard block in Manhattan is about 264 feet by 900 feet (about 80 meters by 271 meters), or slightly over five acres (two hectares); and in some U.S. cities standard blocks are as wide as 1/8 mile (660 feet or approximately 200 meters), or 10 acres (about 4 hectares) if square. Others New York City blocks vary greatly, especially if you get out into the outer boroughs the above poster was correct in stating they can range upto 5 acres, but in Midtown Manhattan for example, these blocks are huge and could easily be double of ones found uptown, and triple of ones found downtown, it all depends on what part of the city you are in as there is no typical nyc block size (all relative to neighborhood) native Well 20 blocks equals one mile so 264 feet would be the standard. Between the Avenues it's about 800 feet. |
