Fish in or near New York? |
Travel Info Hi I'm looking for places that you can go fishing in or around New York City. Long Island is fine too and even New Jersey would be fine. I am looking for a place that has saltwater fishing and that you can rent a boat for the day for a reasonable price. Also, please try to give me places that don't require a fishing license. Thank you Travel Tips Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn is the big site inside New York City for this. There are at least half a dozen boats which take people out for a day's fishing. They start EARLY> Another popular spot is City Island, off the shoreline of the Bronx, although it can be reached via a bridge/causeway. Again, boats that take people out. There are also fishing boats leaving from several spots on Long Island, including Fire Island and Southampton. None of these require a license, just tackle. If you want to fish from shore, in Brooklyn near the Verrazano. Also, on Staten Island from Bono Beach and the shoreline off Alice Austen House Museum or Van Briesen Park. There are a couple fishing boats leaving from Great Kills. Others There are fishing boats that leave from Sheepshead Bay in bklyn and City Island up off the coast of the bronx Also check out Staten Island, near the Verrazano Bridge I heard from a guy at work that no one goes there and he catches alot of fish, many coming in with the tides ive also been fishing at a little marina on west 200th street in manhattan (dyckman street). used to be a pier that went to jersey, but no more. Ive had a little luck there native A fishing license is only required for fresh water fishing, not salt water. Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn has a lot of party boats - some leave early in the morning, some go out at night, too. The different boats go to different places and go after different fish. They usually cost under $30 and you can rent tackle from them (bring your own lunch and beverages - you can buy them onboard, but, it's cheaper and better to bring your own). There are bait and tackle shops that open early in case you want to use live bait (you can buy bait onboard, too). Most boats have a "pool" - whoever catches the largest fish wins the money - it's almost always won by a member of the crew, who fish and sell the fish when they get back - they'll clean your fish for you (tip them for this service). Here are some links with phone numbers - you can call them with whatever questions you have. Have a great time! http://www.fishbox.tv/brooklyn/index.htm... http://www.fishbox.tv/oceaneagle/index.h... http://www.dorothyb.com/ http://www.porgyfishing.com/ Here's a link to party fishing boats on Long Island and New Jersey http://www.thefishingline.com/party.htm... http://www.fishbox.tv/html/northeast/new... If you go in Sheepshead Bay, when your boat docks, get something to eat at Randazzo's Clam Bar - it's on Emmons Avenue across the street from the boats - it's very low key, so your fishing attire is very acceptable - They have a limited menu, but everything is so good - very reasonable prices. Have a great day! sheepshead bay is the best place in brooklyn to go. they have boat rentals, bait and tackle, also over near coney island is a couple of places too, broklyn is the best spot! I have no idea if it's actually legal, but I've seen people fishing in Central Park. |
